The back story

About The floating markets and Amphawa: the back story

West of Bangkok, the canals of Ratchaburi and Samut Songkhram still carry the floating markets: Damnoen Saduak in the morning, Amphawa in the evening, and, at Mae Klong, a market laid out across the railway tracks that folds back when the train passes (TAT).

The markets

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market (Ratchaburi), Amphawa Floating Market and the Mae Klong Railway Market (Samut Songkhram) are all in TAT’s official records.

Timing

Amphawa’s market is busiest at weekends in the late afternoon and evening; check the train times for Mae Klong before you go.

Damnoen Saduak at dawn, Mae Klong for the train, Amphawa at dusk.

Our advice: take a driver and combine all three in one long day.
