About Khao Yai: the back story

Khao Yai National Park, north-east of Bangkok, protects a great expanse of forest, waterfalls and grasslands, part of the Dong Phayayen–Khao Yai Forest Complex listed by UNESCO; around Pak Chong, vineyards and farm cafés line the roads (TAT; khaoyainationalpark.com).

The park

Haew Suwat waterfall and the viewpoints are the classic stops; go with a licensed guide for the trails (TAT).

Wine country

GranMonte and PB Valley are among the vineyards near Pak Chong (TAT).

Stay a night and go out at dawn, when the park is at its quietest.

Our advice: drive carefully at dusk, when wildlife crosses the roads.
